Last Sunday I attended the Gay Pride parade in NYC for the first time. With the recent Supreme Court ruling to overturn DOMA, granting legally married same-sex couples the same federal rights as heterosexual married couples, and to let Proposition 8 (the California gay marriage ban) die, the parade had extra significance and thousands came out to celebrate. New York City had the first Gay Pride Parade over 40 years ago to commemorate the Stonewall Riots in which the gay community exploded against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn on June 28th, 1969.
Special thanks to Mike Marte for the photography on the day.
