Agavi Organic Juice Bar now has 2 locations in Manhattan: the original in the East Village, and the newly opened location in Chelsea, at the Terminal Stores. After a scenic stroll along the Hudson River, I was in need of a pick-me-up, and Agavi Organic Juice Bar fit the bill.

Fresh Ingredients from Poke Bowl
If you’re looking for a fast, yet healthy meal, you should check out Poke Bowl. You can create your own bowl with a big array of toppings or choose a combination from the menu.
For the base I chose zoodles (zucchini noodles), topped with fresh salmon and spicy salmon, scallions, cucumber, red onion, edamame, mango, masago, crispy onion, rice puffs, mushrooms and spicy ponzu. I highly recommend the spicy ponzu when you’re choosing your sauce, it’s so tasty! Everything tasted so fresh and delicious, I really enjoyed my meal here.
New Healthy Bowls from Oxido
I was recently invited to try 4 new healthier bowls from Oxido, a modern Mexican eatery in Flatiron that focuses on high quality food made from scratch. Instead of the usual rice, these bowls have quinoa instead, which is higher in protein and dietary fiber, which in turn keeps you fuller for longer. Below are the 4 new bowls:
4 Ingredient Peanut Butter Crispy Bars
This has been one crazy week, to say the least! I left New Zealand on Tuesday to return to New York City and I was feeling a range of different emotions. Even though my Mum has made an amazing recovery in the past 7 months, I still worry about her a lot and it was very hard to leave her. For now, we will have to make do with phone calls and video chats. It eases my mind somewhat to know she has a great support system around her. We really made the most of our last few weeks together, including a trip down to Tauranga and Mount Maunganui. The beaches down there are among my favourites, and we took her dog Jessie with us, and she was loving all the bush and beach walks.
Raw Vegan Treats from Wise Cicada
Hidden away downstairs from the hustle and bustle of Broadway, Newmarket, you’ll find the cafe and whole foods super-store, Wise Cicada. The food is all organic and vegan, including a salad bar, juice bar and desserts. After a day of walking around the shops with my Mum, we needed a pick-me-up and Wise Cicada was the perfect spot.
We chose the Protein Bar, the Crème Caramel & Tiramisu. The protein bar looks pretty with raspberry on top, and is a powerhouse of nutrients including almonds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, buckwheat, protein powder & flaxseed. This one really keeps you satisfied.
Coconut & Mango Chia Pudding
We’re almost at the end of 2017! It’s been a very dramatic year for me, I can only hope 2018 will be a lot calmer. Still, I am very thankful to be ending the year on a high, and with my beautiful Mum by my side. The past week has been super indulgent for me,…
Raspberry Chia Coconut Yoghurt from Cathedral Cove Naturals
I have fond memories of the first time I discovered the Cathedral Cove Naturals brand. I was on a road trip with my best friend and we stopped in Hahei for the day. I saw that there was a macadamia orchard there, so of course we stopped and met with the founder, Hamish Pilkington, who was only too kind to give us a sample of each of his products. Along with the macadamias, I took home a bag of the Lightly Toasted Organic Muesli, and fell in love with the flavour and the simple, natural ingredients.
That trip was some years ago now, and since then I’ve lived mostly in New York City. I returned back to Auckland this August and on a supermarket trip I saw a jar of Cathedral Cove Naturals Coconut Yoghurt on the shelf. Of course I had to try it! It was the Raspberry Chia Coconut Yoghurt and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Super creamy, with the tang of the raspberries, and a distinct coconut flavour, this yogurt was divine just by itself.
Matcha Coconut Energy Balls
Matcha and Coconut are two of my favorite things. It was only a matter of time before I put the two together to create a satisfying treat. These energy balls are raw vegan, and come together in a matter of minutes. Matcha ( a special form of green tea from Japan) has many health benefits and also gives you a boost thanks to the caffeine. Matcha is made from high quality tea and the leaves are ground down into a fine powder. Because whole leaves are injected, this makes Matcha a more potent source of nutrients than green tea. It is rich in antioxidants that can help prevent cancer and heart disease, and can help to regulate sugar levels in the body.
Black Sesame & Chia Seed Granola
I grew up in New Zealand eating toasted muesli with milk for breakfast. I never liked the untoasted kind, it just didn’t taste as good to me. As far as I know, we didn’t have granola, that was more of an American thing (which I didn’t discover until adulthood). Both muesli and granola are made with nuts,…
This Pie Is Nuts
This Pie Is Nuts is a range of healthy pies and granola, which are free from preservatives and are nourishing for the body. I first tried these delectable pies at the Bryant Park Holiday Market and I got to meet the pie creator herself, Diana. The pies come cutely packaged as individual squares and the flavors are Key Lime, Chocolate Mousse, Purely Pumpkin, Coconut Cream and Sweet Potato & Ginger.
I chose a Key Lime pie and a Coconut Cream pie. The Key Lime was definitely my favorite, with its zesty tartness mixed with creaminess. Pie perfection. The Coconut Cream was really luscious, with flakes of unsweetened coconut adorning the top of the pie.
