Maple Glazed Snickerdoodles
I’m holding onto Summer for as long as I can, but I’m also excited for all the Fall baking. Like these maple-glazed snickerdoodles! Not only do these cookies have all the cinnamon-sugar goodness, they also have a scrumptious maple glaze.
These cookies are great if you’re looking for something fast to bake: they require zero chill time and are done baking in 10 minutes.
If you’re wondering what the difference is between snickerdoodles and sugar cookies, it’s the cream of tartar. While it’s used in many recipes as a stabiliser, cream of tartar serves to add a distinct tanginess to snickerdoodles. It also causes a chemical reaction with the baking soda, giving the cookie a chewier texture.
Hot Cross Buns
Hot cross buns are a staple at my house during Easter. My Mum is a big fan of them, however it wasn’t until I became an adult that I got a liking for them. I was one of those children that used to turn my nose up at anything with raisins in it. I’d eat the raisins by themselves, but if they were in a muffin, I wouldn’t touch it. How times have changed! Now I can’t get enough of cinnamon raisin bread and hot cross buns.
Maple Cinnamon Christmas Cookies
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying some quality time with loved ones. For those back home in New Zealand, it’s already Christmas Day & here in New York City, it’s Christmas Eve. This year in New Zealand, my family will all be gathering at my cousin’s farm. She has two children, and I’m going to miss not seeing their faces light up when they open gifts. And of course, it goes without saying I will really miss the delicious feast, which usually involves a roast lamb with all the trimmings, and my favourite pavlova for dessert. For those not familiar with pavlova, it’s a meringue cake that has a hard shell and is soft and fluffy on the inside. It’s then topped with whipped cream and fresh fruit. Since it’s Summer there, strawberries are a popular topping.
Triple Layer Carrot Cake
I’ve been making carrot cakes for years, it’s my Mum’s favourite cake and it’s one of mine. I say ‘one’ because nothing can come between me and my chocolate cake. Since I’ve made so many carrot cakes over the years, I’ve experimented with different ingredients and quantities, and in this recipe I believe I’ve nailed…
Snow Capped Gingerbread Cookies
I love gingerbread so much. I am one of those strange beings who loves all ginger spice flavoured treats, but truly can’t stand ginger in it’s natural form or crystallized. Every time I have sushi I always leave the ginger on the plate and if some mistakenly makes it’s way into my mouth it’s not…
Cheesecake & Turmeric Cinnamon Milk from Little Bird
If you’re familiar with Little Bird Organics, you’ll know that each and every item on their menu is delicious. I’ve been making a point of trying something new from their dessert cabinet each time I go, and this time it was the Strawberry Cheesecake & the Passionfruit Cheesecake (both $9/slice). One of the best things…
Spice Cake with Penuche Frosting
We’re now into the last month of Winter here in New Zealand, and I can’t wait for Spring to get here! But one thing I do love about Winter is filling the kitchen with delicious spice aromas, especially cloves. I can never get enough of the smell of cloves, and I always have to get…
