When I was last back home in New Zealand I was introduced to a product called ‘Frooze Balls’, a healthy snack that is made up of fruits and nuts, and nothing else. They are also known as ‘Bliss Balls’ at some cafes. I was going to the gym regularly during this time, and would often find myself hungry between meals. Frooze Balls were the perfect snack to carry in my handbag. I liked the fact that these snacks are made of raw, natural ingredients, and nothing processed. They would actually help sustain my hunger until lunch or dinner time thanks to the nuts. Recently I decided to make some at home, and took some into the office for the ladies to try. They were a huge hit! Everyone loved the flavor and asked for the recipe. You don’t need a food processor for this particular recipe. 2 scoops of protein powder may also be added if required.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup all natural almond or peanut butter (I used almond)
1 cup uncooked (dry) rolled oats
1/3 cup honey or pure maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tablespoons slivered almonds
1/2 cup unsweetened freeze-dried raspberries
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips/cacao
Method:
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients VERY well.
- Form into 1 inch balls.
- Place energy balls in the fridge to firm up. Keep refrigerated or frozen.
