I am not vegan, nor vegetarian. I eat just about everything. But lately I’ve been enjoying some raw vegan desserts and I have to say, some of them are better than their dairy-containing, baked counterparts. Case in point: the mixed berry cheesecake from Little Bird Unbakery. Little Bird prides itself on using organic, fresh ingredients and their cakes contain no gluten, dairy, sugar or soy, and absolutely no fillers. The result is a rich and satisfying dessert, without all the guilt. Not that I have much guilt when I eat dessert, but it’s definitely a plus. I feel like some cheesecakes made with real cream cheese can leave you weighed down and even feeling a little sick sometimes as they are so rich with all the butter and cream. I did not feel this way at all after having Little Bird’s cheesecake. My favorite thing was the no added sugar. I love tartness, and the berries provided this which balanced perfectly with the natural sweetness. After my first bite, I was in heaven with the flavors, and my Mum, who had never tried a raw dessert up until this point, was equally impressed. We also had matcha lattes which were delicious. I just may have to try my hand at a raw dessert one of these days 🙂
