While visiting Photoville in Brooklyn this weekend (a pop-up village of shipping containers exhibiting photographs), I had the pleasure of getting to eat food made by former Top Chef contestant Lisa Fernandes. This was very exciting for me, as I watched Top Chef religiously in New Zealand with my mum every week, and I remember Lisa being in the top 3 in season 4, Chicago. Lisa’s latest venture is a food truck called Sweet Chili with ‘Thaietnamese’ cuisine. First you pick a protein (Heavenly beef, Miso glazed silken tofu, Spicy caramel pork or Sweet chili chicken), then you pick a salad (Green papaya salad, Bean sprout salad or Green mango salad), and the meal comes with jasmine rice. I went with the Sweet chili chicken and the Green mango salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly, it was juicy and the chunks were big. The sweet chili sauce was packed with flavor and had a nice kick to it without being very spicy. I could not get enough of the green mango salad, which tasted so fresh and delicious. I ate every last bite of the meal, and it’s definitely the best lunch I’ve had in a long time. I wish all my lunches could be as flavorful as this one! I will definitely need to try the Miso glazed silken tofu next time as this is the glaze she created on Top Chef which won her the challenge and a trip to Italy. Even though Lisa was rushed off her feet she didn’t mind sparing a minute to talk with me and take a photo together. Thanks Lisa!
The Sweet Chili truck operates on a daily schedule which can be found on their website sweetchilinyc.com
