Green Tea Chocolate Lava Cake

Although I’ve been in the city for almost a year now, I only just discovered this place a few weeks ago. Spot Dessert Bar serves western desserts with an Asian influence. The first item I tried from here was a cookie. Yes, not very dessert-like, but if you come in late like I did (an hour before closing) all cookies and cupcakes are half price. So, being the coconut freak that I am, I opted for the chocolate coconut cookie. It was huge. And so delicious. The chocolate was still slightly melted and the cookie was soft and chewy, which is how I like my cookies to be. When I had a friend visiting from Spain, I knew I had to take her to Spot Dessert Bar and finally try an actual dessert. Well, we actually tried 3. If you buy 3 desserts (they have to be 3 different types) it works out a little cheaper. We ordered the Chocolate Green Tea Lava Cake (apparently the #1 customer favorite), the Smoked Coconut Cheesecake and the (seasonal) Golden Toast. The Chocolate Green Tea Lava Cake is a spin on the popular molten lava cakes; Spot added a green tea filling that accompanies the melted chocolate. When you cut into the cake, it’s quite an interesting sight. Bright green and chocolate flow like a mini volcano. All three of us really enjoyed this dessert, it was rich and flavorful, with the green tea ice cream balancing out the sweetness nicely. The Smoked Coconut Cheesecake was interesting. I think the best part was the passion fruit foam that was on top of the cheesecake, along with the white chocolate shavings. The coconut ice cream was also good. The cheesecake definitely tasted smokey, but it didn’t work for me. I don’t think I’d order it again. The Golden Toast was very indulgent. The toast itself has a honey butter flavor and it was served with condensed milk ice cream (I loved the taste of this!), strawberries and cream. All the flavors worked very well together, similar to having waffles. I could definitely see myself having this as a breakfast too! Spot Dessert Bar has definitely become one of my favorite places to indulge. (which I do often!)
