Thursday morning I arrived in Times Square at 6.30am (!!!) to check in for the free cooking class being offered by TNT to promote their new show “On the Menu’, starring Emeril Lagasse and Ty Pennington. Yes, food will get me out of bed that early. Not much else. I had received the invitation a few weeks back but all I knew was that we were cooking breakfast. As well as the class, they were also preparing to break the Guiness World Record for the tallest pancake stack. Around 300 cooks showed up to cook outside, and it was a really fun experience. We made Pumpkin Pecan pancakes which were delicious, and I really wanted to take home the griddle that we used. No such luck, but I did manage to ask Ty Pennington for a photo together and he happily obliged. He really is a friendly, sweet man and I had watched his show ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ every week when I was back home in New Zealand. Emeril and Ty managed to break the world record, with the pancake stack reaching 87.4 cm (approx 34.4 inches), surpassing the previous record of 87 cm. Thanks so much TNT for having me come along!
