The Clevedon Village Farmers Market is held every Sunday from 8.30am – 1pm. My Mum and I, along with my best friend, enjoyed a recent morning there and stuffed ourselves silly. Seriously, there is so much food you are going to want to try, you should really go with an empty stomach.
My first choosing of the day was a huge cinnamon & lemon pretzel, followed by a peanut butter & chocolate cupcake. Feeling that I should really add something savoury to my stomach along with all the sugar, I then got some Japanese dumplings with chili oil. I also bought brownies and a Middle Eastern treat for when I got home. Next time I would like to try the crepes on offer, and a whitebait fritter sandwich.
Open since 2005, the market has over 50 stalls selling fresh produce & provisions. If you’re visiting the market in Summer, I highly suggest you make the short 3km trip to Clevedon Strawberries, where you can pick your own berries and get either a fresh strawberry ice cream or frozen yoghurt.
One of my favourite treats of the day was this Basbousa (pictured below), an Arabian treat made with semolina and filled with date paste. Launched in May this year, Levantine has a range of delicious items, which centre around the nutritious fruit, the date. Owners Obada & Duaa Sabto came to New Zealand from Syria and are now sharing their love of dates with us kiwis. I look forward to trying the rest of their range.
The last market for 2017 will be on Christmas Eve, and the first one for 2018 will be on January 7th. *Keep an eye out for a separate post on Rockabilly Bakes, the cupcakes at the Market.

Hi, just wondering if you remember the name of the brownie stall?
