Chili sauce, whole red chilies and Chinese peppercorns blast your taste buds with the Braised Sliced Fish With Chili Sauce ($18.50) dish at Grand Sichuan, in the East Village. The Chinese waiters seemed surprised to see me eating this dish, as they asked my friend a couple of times if I was alright eating spicy food. In my opinion, this dish has just the right amount of heat, without leaving you red-faced and gasping for water. The fish is so tender and flavorful, and you can be sure with all the chili peppers you’re getting your daily dose of anti-oxidants.
