I really love my burgers. Sometimes, when you’re especially hungry (or hangry!) the only thing that will satisfy that hunger is a good, juicy burger. Such was the case last Friday, when I had an optometrist appointment at 12pm. By 1pm I was hangry. Watch out! I knew just what was in order: a big, tasty burger from Burger Burger. Auckland now has 3 locations, in Ponsonby, Newmarket & Takapuna. I was already in Newmarket, so it was the natural choice.
Situated on York Street, this location is in a prime position, where the entrance is off a small, well-manicured alley only for foot traffic. Surrounded by greenery and pretty flowers, I really appreciate how they decorated the space. Retro artwork adorns the walls, with cheeky speech bubbles depicting the thoughts of those on the canvas.
I got the ‘Old Smokey’ burger, with a NZ grass-fed burger beef patty, bacon, aged cheddar, caramelised onions, BBQ sauce & mayo ($16). I also got a side of kumara chips ($8) and a Honey Cola ($5.50). The burger was juicy (ask for it to be cooked medium) and well-seasoned. So many times when I go out to eat a burger, I’m disappointed that the meat is bland and has no flavour. Well, you don’t have to worry about that at Burger Burger! It’s bursting with flavour and the BBQ sauce adds a nice kick. And what’s a burger without bacon?!
If you’re a Coca Cola drinker like I am (more occasionally these days), then definitely get the house-made Honey Cola. It’s so refreshing on a hot day, and I really enjoyed the honey flavour.
The Kumara Fries are not to be missed either; plus you can feel slightly healthier ordering these over the regular potato fries. The aioli on the side is a winner.
Burger Burger believes in only using local and seasonal ingredients, and supports ethical, organic farming practices. Just another reason to go and get a burger when the next craving hits.
