The chocolate milk from Ronnybrook Farm Dairy is the real deal. Not only does it taste amazing, but the family owned farm also treats its cows like family members. The milk is pasteurized but not homogenized so the cream floats to the top. The Holstein cows the family uses are grass-fed and free to roam in pasture. The herd is closed; no cows have been added to the herd for more than 10 years. In the winter, the cows sleep in their stalls on a 4 inch thick soft mattress which is covered with fresh wood shavings every day and in the summer, they sleep on pasture. Hormones and pesticides are never used, which is very important to me. I made the switch to Almond Milk as I didn’t like that the milk you buy in the supermarket has hormones added.
Ronnybrook Farm Dairy started in 1941 by the Osofsky family on a small farm in the Hudson Valley. Now it is run by brothers Ronny and Rick, who travel down to the Union Square Greenmarket every Wednesday at 2.30am to sell their milk, yogurt and butter. Their products are also sold at other Greenmarkets and the Chelsea Market and their premium ice cream is sold at the Scoop Creamery in Pine Plains.
I used to drink a lot of chocolate milk as a kid. I now drink much less but when I do (and I’ve tried a lot of different chocolate milks over the years) I really savor the creaminess and full flavor that only comes with a good quality chocolate milk. Ronnybrook’s chocolate milk will knock your socks off. It’s how chocolate milk is supposed to be. You can choose from the regular or the low fat.
